Guard Against Others to Speed Up your Internet
It can be frustrating when you want to use your internet for fun or for some really simple job and you just can’t get online or that web page just seems to refuse to load. Very often, the problem is internet speeds that are stopping things happening as you want them to. Don’t worry, there are several things you can do to speed up your internet and in this article we focus on the Internet’s ability to link you to other people, and how controlling that effectively can speed up your internet.
Disable P2P software
P2P software has become very popular in the last few years. Music sharing and TV downloads like BBC iPlayer have revolutionized the way we view and use entertainment. Unfortunately, they have also led to a need to speed up your internet as they do take up an awful lot of memory and really slow things down. Even when you think you’ve switched them off they are working away in the background, uploading and downloading information. Not only will that increase the need to speed up your internet but will also perhaps swallow up your download limits pretty quickly, if you have these with your ISP package. An easy way to still use these programs but without the need to speed up your internet is to set them to ‘no peer to peer’’ sharing.
Secure your Network
It is possible to hijack wireless broadband and your neighbors might well be doing that, even without either of you realizing that anything has happened. If you are sharing your internet access, this will rob you of bandwidth and mean that you really need to speed up your internet connection to get it to work efficiently. Of course, this is also a security threat.
Time your Access
Just as timing your car journey to avoid rush hour can cut your journey time, you can speed up your internet by being selective about when you try to get online. Time it to when fewer people will be trying to get online. Late and night or during the daytime are better times if you want to speed up your internet access. Most people access the internet during the evenings. You are particularly advised to use off-peak times to download music, movies etc.
Go Elsewhere
If, after you have implemented these measures, you still feel the need to speed up your internet, you may need to switch to a different ISP. However, if you are a long way from the telephone exchange, you may not be able to do much about that. You should find out about other ISPs and evaluate whether they are worth switching to, though.
So, in attempting to speed up your internet, be sure to make your connection secure and be careful about whom you allow to access your PC’s information.
